ParticipantI think Doug Ford will do a better job. Olivia Chow don’t have a clue and John Tory is way out in left field. Doug will have the help and guidance of his brother Rob Ford behind him which we know he did a great job except for his drugs and alcohol problems.

KeymasterToronto and building more affordable housing?
HERE IS OUR BREAKDOWN OF TRUTHFUL OBJECTIVES
- How does that work when Toronto also states “helping better protect renters from eviction. Did they forget that condos are not ”
affordable housing” and Investors need to pay high interest rates and maintenance fees plus taxes to keep them on the rental market?
-
Secure Affordable Homes Fund with a $100 million annual investment? May start enforcing Builders to build REITS supporting the affordable housing on the rental market.
-
This is about Corporate owned rental buildings who can repair and transfer affordable rental apartment buildings to not-for-profit, community, and Indigenous housing providers. (i.e. land trusts.) It is not for independent Landlords.
-
I am quoting this “Build 25,000 rent-controlled homes on city-owned land. There will be a minimum of 7,500 affordable units, including at least 2,500 rent-geared-to-income units” ok use the Land that is available and just sitting there.
- We certainly agree Tenants should live with dignity and equally RESPECT THEIR LANDLORDS !! The weigh scale with problematic Tenant is shifting to the problem side! RentSafeTO to make sure tenants live with dignity and scale up the Tenant Support Program to help tenants organize to fight evictions and above guideline rent increases is one side with no protection for independent Landlords. It is a time for shift
-
Establish the Toronto Landlord Action Committee AND Toronto Renters Action Committee! This is not a one sided initiative. It NEEDS TO BE a collaborative approach.
-
Rent control initiatives need to be sensitive to affordability. Bank Interest Rates are obscene! Affordability works both ways. If these properties are City Owned they can go ahead and create a one way Rental Program however we are positive they will have bylaws implemented to protect their interest. Anti-renoviction bylaws, advocating for real rent control, reviewing existing policies and programs related to renters, and holding the City accountable to renters.
-
Raise the Municipal Land Transfer Tax on luxury homes, with new graduated rates on purchases of homes valued at over $3 million. Let’s be fair the City of Toronto has a complete disrespect of value and shifting responsibility to the above is a lack of respect to Human Rights. Again why are we building a WALL between People?
-
Increase property taxes in the City of Toronto – that is not new maybe start getting better quotes for initiatives. Hire professionals to monitor overpriced City quotes and obscene values noted as overpriced contracts. City of Toronto are NOT negotiators nor are they professionals when it comes to contractual law.
-
The City of Toronto Vacant Home Tax will be increased from 1% to 3%. Another money grab and not a solution for out of country investors who are holding their properties at bay. Sadly seniors and citizens who speak English as a second language are already at a loss and this should have been dealt with years ago!! It is an neglected initiative.
- How does that work when Toronto also states “helping better protect renters from eviction. Did they forget that condos are not ”
